I hold  B.S. degrees in both Communications Studies, with an emphasis in Journalism, and Finance from California State University, Bakersfield.

I have an M.A.T. degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Spring Hill College, Mobile.

I am certified to teach all subjects in grades K-6 and reading K-12 by the State of Alabama.

I am AMSTI (Alabama Math Science and Technology Institute) trained in 5th grade math and MMI trained in 4th grade math.

I am certified as "highly qualified" in accordance with the No Child Left Behind legislation.

I am in my 18th year of teaching and have taught 3rd, 4th, an 5th grade over the years. I LOVE teaching math and use a "hands on" approach as I facilitate student learning. I use lots of games, real world problem solving, and partner/group work as I teach the hows, and more importantly, the whys, of math.

Before teaching, I spent 10 years in the business world in California and Florida. After moving to Mobile, I was lucky enough to be a stay at home mom to my children until after they were in elementary school. Being a room mom and volunteering in the classroom is what made me know I had to get my teaching certificate. I AM PASSIONATE about teaching!

Welcome to 4th grade at Dawes Intermediate - 4th graders are FANTASTIC!

This is my second year teaching at Dawes and I LOVE being part of the Dawes family.   I am a Math nerd, so I am very happy to be teaching math in the Carter, Ellzey, Germany, Hamilton team this year.

I was born in California and raised in California, Oregon, and Washington states. I lived in Miami, Florida for a number of years, and have been a resident of Mobile for 24 years. I guess that makes me 'almost' a native.

I have two children, both are grown. My son, Spencer, is a Senior Analytic Statistician for Travelers Insurance in Hartford, Conn. (He's also a math nerd!). My daughter, Abby, and her husband just moved to Seattle, Washington where Andrew will be a political science professor at a community college and Abby hopes to earn her doctorate in Women's Studies at the UofW.

Passionate about animal rights, I am active in a local vegan, non-profit group, ARC-Awareness, Compassion, and Repsect for all Sentient Beings. I like to read, cook, garden (vegetables), hike, and camp. I'm also enjoy adventure - I have ridden in a helicopter, ventured through a 3 story high rope course, zip-lined, tandum skydived, white water rafted, hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and am up for anything new and exciting.

For several years I was involved with MCPSS/MAEF's EYE program (Engaging Youth in Engineering). I have co-sponsored the STEM club, Lego Club, and Robotics at Dawes.

I guess you have figured out that I love teaching, and look forward to a fun filled year of learning with your child as we move through 4th grade together. Please, be an active part of your child's education, contact me as needed, and remember to hug your Fantastic 4th Grader Everyday!
